The Power of Doing Less

The Power of Doing Less

One of the components of The Project Management Masterclass is where we deal with (and solve) the problem of overload – too much to do and not enough time to do it.

It may seem that this is a problem you have very little control over but, in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Once you know the technique:

  • There are 9 things you can do to apply it.
  • 7 of these are entirely under your control and don’t require any say-so or permission from anybody. They’re numbered in green below.
  • The 8th thing appears to require you to get buy-in from other people but – as I’ll explain – you don’t really.
  • The 9th one is really good to have and while it does require buy-in from other people, you could completely get by without it. It’s shown in red.

So this is very much in your hands.

Let’s start. Over the next few weeks I’ll go through it all. I’ll add to this every Monday or Tuesday. Today – as we start – is Tuesday 20 July 2021.

First, you have to know the technique. It consists of four things:

1 Make a List

2 Split the List

3 Prioritise the ‘Wildly Important’

4 Ditch the Rest

Now, you apply the technique:

5 Flip the Switch

6 Start Today

7 Get Buy-in

8 Do It Anyway
